Find Stimulus Grants for Individuals

By Scott Vicks On October 31, 2009 Under Personal Finance

The current recovery package means that there is more money available than there is normally for federally funded programs. To dispense the additional money is using the existing public funding infrastructure. The government grant programs awards billions of dollars annually, with the addition of stimulus grants that number is continuing to increase.

Stimulus grants are being used to pay for a wide range of projects. Local governments have gotten money for construction projects and infrastructure maintenance. Money has been earmarked for the arts and to help support suffering museums. Stimulus money is being used to help homeowners who have fallen behind their monthly payments because of the housing crisis.

The stimulus grant money is being administered through the same groups and agencies that dispense most grant funds. These government agencies including the State Department, Small Business Authority, and Department of Defense. The agencies that run the grant programs make many of the decisions regarding specific programs and eligibility guidelines. If you are interested in a grant program the best place to start is the public agency that deals with your area of interest.

To better organize the billion dollar public grant program awards are broken down into several different categories. One of the categories is the type of applicant eligible which can either be a business, a non profit organization, or an individual. Many grant programs are open to a couple or even all of these groups. There are certain grant programs that specify only one applicant category.

There are a number of grant programs that are designed to support non profit groups. Many charitable organizations depend on public money to maintain operation and they have received a significant portion of stimulus money. Many schools and community groups have received public money.

Many stimulus grants are open to individual applicants. There are several agencies that specialize in awarding money to individuals or small groups.
